Data is exploding all around us and we are immersed in an oceanic galaxy of information. The Internet has changed fundamentally the way we lead our lives. We cannot live without our smartphones and appliances for the conveniences they bring about. Just as our personal lives have been transformed by these devices and software/apps that run on these platforms, they are also transforming the way companies run their business, governments provide services, hospitals care for patients, researchers find new drugs and solutions, and universities educate the next generation workforce. There is broad agreement that the size of the digital universe is doubling every two years at least, a 50-fold growth from 2010 to 2020. While all this data has become the life-blood of organizations and societies, it also presents numerous risks to all parties involved.
This one-day symposium provides a rich venue for diverse discussions and learnings about ways for us all to harness this data explosion and associated benefits while managing the risks.
