Are you thinking about starting a social business, nonprofit, or other type of venture with a social impact? Then, you might be a social entrepreneur.
How to organize a social venture is one of the first and most important decisions nascent social entrepreneurs make. Social work entrepreneurs often select traditional for-profit or nonprofit entity types, but newer organizational forms are available, including L3Cs, benefit corporations, hybrids, and fiscally sponsored projects. This presentation " Shaping Change: An Exploration of Organizational Forms for Social Enterprise and Innovation" by Teresa Chahine, PhD, Lecturer in Social Entrepreneurship at Yale University will provide an overview of social venture organizational forms. Participants will learn about various types of social ventures and be able to select a form that best fits their social venture’s mission, goals, and operating needs.
Teresa Chahine has a Doctorate in Science from the Harvard School of Public Health. She is the author of Social Entrepreneurship: Building Impact Step by Step. Chahine’s research focuses on developing tools to characterize and advance social and environmental determinants of health. She launched the first social entrepreneurship program in the context of public health at Harvard University. She was also responsible for launching the first venture philanthropy organization in her home country of Lebanon, providing tailored financing and critical management support to social enterprises serving marginalized populations through education and job creation for youth and women. Chahine has published widely on financing, measuring, and scaling social impact. Chahine recently developed an open-sourced, self-paced Social Entrepreneurship course that is available online on Coursera.
