Humanities Center Coffee Hour Series: Donovan Hohn & Claas Kuhnen

Return to Event

The WSU Humanities Center invites faculty, students, staff, and the community to a Coffee Hour presentation given by Donovan Hohn (Professor, English) and Claas Kuhnen (Assistant Professor, Art, Art History, and Design) on the topic of "Generative AI in the Humanities and the Arts:The Cases For and Against".

Abstract: In STEM fields, from cetology to theoretical physics, examples of groundbreaking AI-assisted research abound. In the Humanities and the Arts, the reception of this new technology has been more mixed, attracting enthusiasts but also skeptics and opponents, and it has raised questions: Can AI make art? Conduct original research? Are Large Language Models useful digital tools? Or, having been trained on copyright-protected work, sophisticated piracy machines? Whether we like AI or not (one of us does, one of us does not), students have begun using the technology. How should we respond?
