Krysta Ryzewski is an Associate Professor of Anthropology with specializations in historical archaeology, cultural heritage management, and engineering (materials science). Professor Ryzewski conducts archaeological fieldwork in urban areas (Detroit and Hamtramck) and in the Caribbean (on the islands of Montserrat and St. Croix). In these settings she uses historical archaeology to study past conflicts, inequality, and disasters and to address their present-day legacies. Much of her work is oriented towards the public, and therefore involves frequent interactions with local communities, politicians, and the media.
