Honors students are invited to attend this regular series featuring lunch with campus and community leaders. Lunches with Leaders for Tuesday, October 22, 2024 features Nancy Kaffer, editorial page editor of the Detroit Free Press.

Student interested in Journalism, Communications, Community Advocacy, Media Arts, Local and National Politics, Detroit Businesses, Government and Policy, and Political Science are encouraged to attend and hear from this distinguished Detroit leader.

Nancy Kaffer is the editorial page editor of the Detroit Free Press. A national award-winning columnist, Kaffer writes about politics, policy and the complicated relationship between the two, from Detroit’s historic municipal bankruptcy to the backlog of untested sexual assault kits in Detroit to the Flint water crisis. She oversees publication of commentary and letters to the editor, pens columns and contributes to unsigned editorials. Kaffer is a native of Mobile, Ala. Before joining the Free Press in 2012, she was a staff writer for Crain’s Detroit Business, where she covered the city of Detroit. She has also worked at publications including the Dearborn Press & Guide and the Hattiesburg (Mississippi) American, where she covered K-12 education and post-Katrina recovery in Mississippi’s Pine Belt. Kaffer lives in southwest Detroit with her husband and son.
