Research & Academic Development Seminar – Transparent Reporting of Research in Journal Articles

Return to Event

The Office of the Vice President for Research and Provost’s Office are pleased to offer the Research and Academic Development seminar series for WSU faculty, chairs & directors, postdoctoral trainees & graduate students and administrators. Seminars are free; registration is required to attend.

This seminar, Transparent Reporting of Research in Journal Articles, will take place Thursday, December 7, 2017, from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. in Scott Hall, conference room #1328. The speaker will be Katherine Akers, Ph.D., Biomedical Research and Data Specialist from the Shiffman Medical Library.

The NIH recently led an initiative to improve the rigor and reproducibility of basic and preclinical research, particularly animal studies. In response, leading scientific journals including Science and Nature defined a common set of principles and guidelines for performing statistical analysis, reporting experimental methodology, and sharing data and materials. Dr. Akers will highlight the crux of the problem, explain how journal policies have changed to address the problem, and discuss strategies for ensuring the transparent reporting of your research.
